What is Acne?
Acne is the most common skin condition treated in dermatology. If you are silently suffering with acne, you are not alone. An estimated 45 million Americans have acne, including many adults. A disorder of the skin's oil glands and hair follicles, the red, irritated bumps that are the hallmark of acne breakouts are often painfully obvious. Prevalence of Acne

Cause of Acne
The principal factors involved with acne breakout are:

- Inflammation
Forms of Acne
- A variety of acne lesions may involve
- Blackheads (open comedomes)
- White heads (closed comedomes)
- Lesions containing pus (pustules)
- Reddened inflamed papules (may be painful)
- Nodules and cysts which may lead to scarring in the more severe cases
Treatment Options
- Topical therapy for acne, such as CLENZIderm M.D. is best for non-inflammatory or mild to moderate inflammatory acne.
- Oral therapy such as Acutane is used for non-responsive moderate inflammatory acne or severe nodular or cystic acne. CLENZIderm M.D. should be avoided in patients on Acutane unless prescribed by a physician.
Obagi CLENZIderm M.D. prescription-strength acne therapeutic system is the only acne treatment with a liquid form of 5% benzoyl peroxide. CLENZIderm M.D. enters the follicle more easily then other formulations which contain insoluble benzoyl peroxides. The molecular structure of the solubilized CLENZIderm M.D. technology is 1/10,000th the size of other benzoyl peroxide preparations. CLENZIderm M.D. is clinically proven to provide visibly clearer skin as early as 2 weeks. The end result is clearer, healthier, breakout-free skin -- fast. In addition, CLENZIderm M.D. is easy to use and does not require the use of an antibiotic. The CLENZIderm M.D. Daily Care Foaming Cleanser removes dirt and excess oil leaving the skin clear and refreshed. The active ingredients are 2% salicylic acid which reduces sebum, and menthol which cools and calms the skin.
Instructions for Daily Care Foaming Cleanser 
- Wet face with warm water
- Dispense dime-size amount into palm of hand
- Lather and gently massage over entire face for at least 20 to 30 seconds
- Avoid getting to close to eyes
- Rinse skin thoroughly and pat dry
- Do not dry aggressively with towel
- Wait 10 to 15 minutes to allow skin to dry before applying Pore Therapy
CLENZIderm M.D. Pore Therapy contains 2% Salicylic acid to help unclog pores, Menthol to help eliminate surface bacteria and denatured alcohol to help kill acne causing bacteria quickly.
Instructions for Pore Therapy
- Before applying make sure skin has been cleansed and it is completely dry
- Moisten a cotton ball or a pad with Pore Therapy
- Apply over entire face
- Avoid getting near eyes or in nose or mouth
- Do not rinse off
- Allow to dry before applying Serum Gel
CLENZIderm M.D. Serum Gel contains 5% Solubilized Benzoyl Peroxide with patented Soluzyl technology for better penetration and effective reduction of P. Acnes/bacteria. This is the product that may cause some stinging and tingling.
Instructions for Serum Gel
- Pump Serum Gel 1 time onto a cotton pad
- First apply Gel to areas of skin where the acne is more prevalent
- Apply to areas with most pimples apply to areas with least pimples
- Avoid eyes and in nose or mouth
- Wash hands after applying but do not wash medication off face
- A moisturizer may be used after Serum Gel. Sunscreen is advised if going outside
- Note: Benzoyl Peroxide can bleach hair and dyed fabric
CLENZIderm M.D. Normal to Dry System:
CLENZIderm M.D. Normal to Dry System is for similar forms of acne such as mild to moderate acne. For customers that have dry or sensitive skin or individuals that prefer lotions, the CLENZIderm M.D. Normal to Dry System will provide rapid reduction of acne lesions. In contrast to the CLENZIderm M.D. Normal to Oily System the CLENZIderm M.D. Normal to Dry System does not contain Salicylic acid.
In a clinical study using once a day CLENZIderm M.D. Normal to Dry System there was a 50% reduction in inflammatory lesions and a 29% reduction in non-inflammatory lesions. No dryness was noted after 3 weeks of use, and 91% of patients reported their skin was “very comfortable” after 3 weeks.

CLENZIderm M.D. Daily Care Cream Cleanser contains glycerin plus soothing ingredients and gently and effectively removes dirt and excess oil leaving the skin clean and soft. It is a non-soap hydrating cleanser.
Instructions for Daily Care Cream Cleanser
- Wet face with warm water
- Dispense a nickel sized amount into the palm of hand
- Gently massage over entire face for at least 20 to 30 seconds
- Rinse thoroughly
- Wait 10 minutes to allow skin to dry completely before applying Therapeutic Lotion
- Do not dry aggressively with towel, hairdryer set on cold may be used
CLENZIderm Therapeutic Lotion contains the active ingredient 5% solubilized (liquefied) Benzoyl Peroxide in a lotion base and is more hydrating than the CLENZIderm M.D. Serum Gel.
Instructions for Therapeutic Lotion
- Apply one pump onto fingertips, once daily
- First apply lotion to areas of skin where the acne is more prevalent
- Apply to areas with most pimples to areas with least pimples
- Avoid eyes and in nose or mouth
- Wash hands after applying but do not wash medication off face
- Allow Lotion to absorb completely before applying Therapeutic Moisturizer
- Sensitive skin may feel temporary tingling/stinging during first week of use which can be minimized be reducing frequency of application
- Note: Benzoyl Peroxide can bleach hair and dyed fabric
CLENZIderm M.D. Therapeutic Moisturizer is a non-comedogenic moisturizer that contains 20% glycerin to hydrate the skin and 1% Dimethicone to keep the skin soft.
Instructions for Therapeutic Moisturizer
- Apply with fingertips to areas of dryness on face
- Can be used more than once a day to help address over-drying skin
- To protect against UV exposure, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen

Each CLENZIderm M.D. system can be expected to last about 4 months with once a day use and two months with twice a day use. The CLENZIderm M.D. System can be enhanced by using Vitamin A products such as Tretinoin (by prescription only) or Retrinal .05% or Retrinal .1% (Non-Prescription) Customers who can be seen by our Aesthetician are able to purchase prescription topicals at discounted prices and no charge for the prescription or the consultation with our Aesthetician.
Clinically proven CLENZIderm M.D. works quickly to clear acne. In a recent clinical study, patients using CLENZIderm M.D. experienced: 23% reduction in sore red acne after one week of use – twice the reduction as patients using a leading combination prescription acne medication -- and 52% reduction after 2 weeks.
13% reduction in whiteheads and blackheads after one week of use -- more than twice the reduction as patients using a leading combination prescription acne medication -- and 34% reduction after 2 weeks.
In a second clinical study, after three weeks of use, patients using CLENZIderm M.D. Acne System achieved:
62% reduction in sore red acne
47% reduction in blackheads and whiteheads.
For patients that are able to travel to Manchester, NH, Salicylic Acid Peels done by our Aesthetician may be of benefit to soften the outer layer of dead cells, thereby improving absorption of The CLENZIderm M.D. System.
Side Effects: Transient stinging and/or tingling which is usually tolerated.
Advisory: Products containing salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide should not be used when contemplating pregnancy or when pregnant or nursing.Some people may be sensitive to products containing salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide. We recommend that you do not use any other skincare products with this acne system unless directed by your physician. We also recommend that you start on this system slowly by applying small amounts of each product on your forearm and checking for adverse reactions in 24 hours before using these products on your face or other areas for acne. Minor redness is acceptable, however, itching, blistering or excessive inflammation would be reasons to avoid these products.
